PhD student at IMT School for Advanced Studies Lucca
Welcome to my academic homepage.
I am a PhD Candidate in Economics at IMT School for Advanced Studies Lucca, Italy. My research interests are in regional and urban economics, focusing on the impact of tourism in cities.
I am on the 2023-24 academic job market.
My thesis aims to comprehensively examine the impact of tourism on urban transformation in cities. Specifically, I investigate the role of short-term rentals in reshaping the urban economic landscape by promoting consumption amenities and displacing businesses that cater primarily to residents.
In my Job Market Paper (link), I investigate tourism's impact on urban economic activity, focusing on hotel openings in Madrid from 2001 to 2010. I employ a novel instrumental strategy using protected buildings data to address the non-random distribution of hotel openings. Results reveal positive effects on establishments and employment in hotel vicinity, with variations across economic sectors. Tourism's influence extends beyond, leading to indirect economic spillovers in distant areas, impacting job creation and the real estate market by increasing rental prices and residential investment.
